Interview Andy Souwer

Souwer has fought twice before in Italy’s fashion capital, but is yet to taste victory after suffering points defeats to Giorgio Petrosyan and Dzhabar Askerov.

Two-time K-1 Max champion Souwer said:

I didn’t lose much in my whole career, but I’m yet to win in Milan. The first time I fought against Petrosyan, I thought I deserved more. The second time against Dzhabar was a split decision and I wasn’t at my best. There were some mental problems, but I also thought I didn’t lose the fight, I thought I deserved an extra round. That was a pity for me, but hopefully I can do better tonight and make things correct.

Holland’s Souwer, 31, has the edge in experience over Bessmertny and is planning to get in the young Belarussian’s face.

I didn’t know Yuri that well before the fight was made,

Souwer admitted.

I’ve studied him a little bit since and I think he is a good fighter. He has taken some of the East European style and added some skills from muay thai. So I have to get close to him and fight as hard as I can. It’s a small ring, so there is nowhere for him to escape. Hopefully that will suit me. I feel great, I trained well and my condition is really good and the show is good. All I can do is put on a good performance, and I hope this is the first of many LEGEND fights for me.
